Principal Firmware Architect
Overview
Toyota’s North American R&D headquarters in Plano, Texas is looking for a Principal Firmware Architect to define the software architecture for next-generation vehicle platforms. You will lead the technical roadmap for embedded firmware across multiple ECU domains — including body control, powertrain, and zonal gateways — running on ARM Cortex-R and Cortex-A processors with FreeRTOS and embedded Linux. Your architectural decisions will directly impact vehicle safety, real-time determinism, and production scalability across millions of vehicles.
This is a lead-level technical role that requires deep expertise in real-time embedded systems, CAN/CAN-FD and automotive Ethernet networks, and the automotive software development lifecycle. You will define interface specifications, select MCU and SoC platforms, establish firmware coding and review standards, and mentor a large team of firmware engineers across North America. Experience with AUTOSAR, ISO 26262 functional safety, and over-the-air update architectures is strongly desired.
