Firmware Manager
Overview
Google’s Devices & Services team is looking for a Firmware Manager to lead our embedded firmware organization in Mountain View. You will manage a team of firmware engineers responsible for bringing up and shipping firmware across Pixel, Nest, Fitbit, and other first-party hardware products. This is a hands-on leadership role — you will set technical direction, drive architectural decisions, and grow your team through mentorship and hiring.
As Firmware Manager, you will work cross-functionally with silicon partners, platform software teams, product management, and QA to deliver production-quality firmware on aggressive timelines. Your team owns the full firmware stack from bootloaders and RTOS drivers through application-layer features for WiFi, BLE, and sensor subsystems. You will drive best practices around CI/CD, static analysis, hardware-in-the-loop testing, and power optimization across multiple product families.
The ideal candidate has a strong background in embedded C/C++, experience shipping consumer electronics at scale, and a proven track record of leading engineering teams. You should be comfortable navigating ambiguity, advocating for engineering excellence, and making data-driven tradeoffs between features, quality, and schedule. If you want to build firmware that ships to millions of users, this is the role for you.
